Cam Newton snatches 12th Flag from stands, throws it to ground

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton snatched a 12th Man flag from a fan in the stands, balled it up, and threw it into the field.

After winning the playoff game against the Seahawks, Newton was celebrating with fans by giving high-fives in a victory lap.

When one of the 12th Man flags that are popular among Seattle fans caught his attention, his  actions spoke louder than words.

It’s not the first time Newton has taken down a rival flag. He tore down a Green Bay Packer fan’s banner in November.

His actions in the fall partially prompted a revised banner policy at Bank of America Stadium; only fan flags smaller than 2 feet by 2 feet are allowed in the stands.

Earlier this week, many Seahawks fans expressed disappointment that large 12th Man flags would not be admitted.

On Twitter, many called out Newton – with one person saying “Cam Newton makes Tom Brady look like a saint.”

Seahawks fan Sarah wrote a letter to Newton on her Facebook page, and one of her friends shared it with KIRO 7.

SB Nation reports that Newton did take time on Sunday before and after the game to congratulate Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson on a great season.
