FERNDALE, Wash. — Two bodies were found in a car recovered from the Nooksack River in Whatcom County, the Ferndale Police Department said.
The department received a report from a pedestrian around 7 p.m. Monday that there were skid marks and car parts in the roadway where Cherry Street turns into Ferndale Road.
Officers responded and saw something submerged in the water, but couldn’t do a search and rescue mission until the morning due to weather.

Police went back to the river Tuesday morning and pulled the car from the water shortly before noon.
Two adult men were found dead inside with no other signs of trauma, according to a PIO with the department.
The PIO said that current evidence points to an accident. Police are currently contacting the families.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Department, Whatcom Fire District 7, border patrol and Washington State Patrol are assisting with the investigation.
