2 injured after car drives off road into Liberty Bay

POULSBO, Wash. — Two people were injured Saturday morning when their car careened off the road into Liberty Bay in Poulsbo, police said.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a couple trapped in a submerged vehicle near Fjord Drive around 8:35 a.m.

The vehicle was almost completely submerged with only two rear wheels exposed when officials got to the scene. Three firefighters had to swim out to the vehicle to rescue the two occupants.

A man was taken to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton in critical condition and a woman was transported in stable condition. The three firefighters were also transported to be treated for hypothermia.

Crews from North Kitsap Fire and Rescue and the Bainbridge Island Fire Department also responded. The Poulsbo Police Department is investigating.
