The Washington State Department of Transportation is looking at how to pay for replacing the westbound US2 trestle between Lake Stevens and Everett.
One possibility is to help finance a replacement bridge with a toll. State Representative Mark Harmsworth has sounded the alarm, saying state consultants have told him one option is for an eastbound toll of up to $6.30 during the evening commute.
WSDOT officials tell KIRO 7 that tolls are just one possibility for partially financing a new bridge, and other options include bonds and federal funding.
More than 11,000 people have signed an online petition saying "no" to the toll.
