Several people on Rygaard's Ax Men fan page are sharing their condolences.
"Ax Men" told the story of the men who risk their lives every day to provide America with the timber it needs to build cities, towns and lives.
Rygaard was part of his family-owned business, Rygaard Logging. It has been in business since 1991.
The History Channel show was canceled just before he announced his intention to run as Republican for the Clallam County District 2 commissioner.
The Peninsula Daily News reports he did not advance from the Aug. 2 primary to the general election.
