TUKWILA, Wash. — Police are investigating after a body was found in a car submerged in the Duwamish River.

On Sunday night, a person reported hearing a car crash in the 12800 block of 48th Avenue South.

When officers arrived, they found a barrier that separates the road from the Green River Trail and Duwamish River damaged.

Due to darkness and the weather conditions, officers couldn’t see over the river embankment whether a car went into the water.

On Monday, crews and several agencies responded to the area to help in the search.

When Tukwila officers located the car, they found a man’s body inside.

The remains were taken to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.
