A 2-year-old girl was killed Wednesday morning in an Auburn apartment fire.
The fire happened shortly after 3 a.m. in a top-floor unit of the Clearwater Ridge Apartments in the 3700 block of Auburn Way South.
Firefighters said the girl was found in a bedroom where the fire appears to have started. Family said her name was Atailya and she would have celebrated her fourth birthday this weekend. Her mother, who was working as a barista, came home when the fire was burning, Atailya's uncle told KIRO 7.
Three other people were in the house: two children around age 6 and 7 and Atailya's father. They were not hurt. The children woke up to a fire alarm and alerted the adult, firefighters said.
A cause was not immediately determined, but firefighters said it was suspicious. The apartment had a fire alarm, but no sprinklers. Initial reports gave different ages for Atailya.
