STEVENS PASS, Wash. — The Chinese businessman who disappeared during a visit at the Deception Falls area was found dead by a King County Sheriff’s Office diver Wednesday, officials said.
KIRO 7 was told the 50-year-old man was found just before 1 p.m.
Rescuers went searching for the man after his wife called 911 because he did not return from venturing off to take photos while waiting for a second group he was with to arrive at the falls.
King County Sheriff's Sgt. Ryan Abbott says investigators believe the man fell Tuesday.
KIRO 7 was told the man’s jacket and hat were found snagged on a branch a 100 yards downstream of the falls, but he was nowhere to be found.
Teams conducted a preliminary search for the man Tuesday, but could not continue as nightfall approached because it was too dangerous.
Abbott says the man, who is from China, was here on a work visa and living in the region.
Investigators said the death appears to be a tragic accident and shows no signs of foul play.
Deception Falls is about 75 miles (120 kilometers) west of Seattle off Highway 2.
