Four lanes of northbound Interstate 5 were blocked near the border of King and Pierce counties on Sunday morning after a driver caused a 5-car wreck then fled on foot, according to Washington State Patrol trooper Brooke Bova.
The extent of the injuries aren’t yet known, but they are not believed to be life-threatening, Bova said.
“Seat belts save lives!” Bova tweeted with a photo of mangled vehicles whose driver suffered a head laceration.
A southbound driver struck a pickup truck which lost control, crossed the barrier into the northbound lanes, and struck other vehicles.
Authorities are looking for a black man who fled on foot after the wreck.
All lanes are now reopened, the state Department of Transportation announced via Twitter at 9:18 a.m.
