SEATTLE — The Interstate 5 express lanes were closed Friday near Mercer Street in Seattle after a fatal crash.
The Washington State Department of Transportation said the opening of the express lanes for northbound traffic would likely be delayed for several hours.
At around 11:30 a.m. Friday, the Seattle Fire Department said a semi-truck had rolled over and the driver was trapped. Crews were working to free the victim.
A short time later, Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson said the crash was fatal. The driver of the semi-truck was killed, according to the Seattle Fire Department.
Seattle Fire said crews remained at the scene to stabilize the truck.
The crash also caused a small fuel spill. A Department of Ecology helped with the cleanup.
At around 3 p.m., crews cleared the scene.
