Fire crews fighting a wildfire near Leavenworth saved a lost dog amid the smoke rising from the nearly 500 miles that were scorched over the weekend.
Calm weather helped firefighters battle the small wildfire, which threatened homes.
About 100 homes remained under evacuation orders on Sunday, but so far no structures have been lost.
The fire began Saturday afternoon near the town of Peshastin.
Fire information officer Alan Hoffmeister said fire crews were assisted by retardant planes and other aircraft dropping buckets of water on the flames.
Authorities estimated that the fire was about 25 percent contained, but Hoffmeister said that estimate will likely change as more crews return from the field to assist with mapping efforts.
Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
