All of the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Fife were closed at the Port of Tacoma after a suspect ran into traffic and was hit and killed by a car Friday morning.
The scene has since been cleared.
Fife officers were called to a hotel off the Port of Tacoma Road for an unwanted person.
When they spoke with the suspect, he provided false information and then was identified as a felony warrant suspect.
He then ran from officers when they tried to take him into custody. Officers did not follow.
He ran onto the freeway and was struck by at least one vehicle at about 6:40 a.m. He died from his injuries.
The Washington State Patrol is conducting the investigation.
Detectives on scene and the medical examiner is en route. We are working diligently to get SB I5 fully opened. No exact time frame yet.
