More than a dozen homes in Auburn were evacuated Friday morning due to methane gas.
Puget Sound energy was doing random checks in the 3100 block of 133rd Avenue Southeast and found traces of methane gas below ground from a natural source at about 8 p.m. Thursday.
The utility brought in a private company to test, which found a higher level.
Sixteen homes were evacuated as a precaution but people have since been allowed to return.
The street was closed while PSE crews worked to find the source and firefighters went door to door to tell residents to leave.
Crews are still looking for the source but say it is safe for residents to occupy their homes.
