ANACORTES, Wash. (AP) — Authorities have identified the body of a man found dead after a fire destroyed his home Thursday in Anacortes.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports Rev. Dwight Woodruff of New Hope Christian Fellowship died in the blaze.
Fire Chief Dave Oliveri says the fire was so intense when firefighters arrived, they couldn't enter the house. The body of the 68-year-old man was found near the front door a few hours later. Oliveri says authorities believe he died trying to get to the door.
Oliveri says Woodruff likely died from smoke inhalation and heat, but an official determination will be made by the Skagit County Coroner.
Oliveri says determining the fire's cause was unlikely because of the extent of the damage.
