Man sues Seattle church after falling off bike in parking lot

SEATTLE — A man is suing St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Seattle for negligence, after falling off his bike in the church’s parking lot.

According to documents filed in King County Superior Court, plaintiff Thomas J. Blue is suing the church for unspecified damages, after sustaining “serious injuries” that “may require future medical treatment.”

The complaint, filed Feb. 6 by Blue's representatives at Dean Standish Perkins & Associates states that he was riding his bicycle on Nov. 3, 2016, down East Lynn Street in Seattle when he noticed the church’s gate was open and decided to cut through the church parking lot.

According to court documents, Blue saw several people setting up for what appeared to be some sort of event, but decided he could cut through the area safely.

According to the complaint, his bike’s front tire struck a metal cable strung across the parking lot and Blue was “violently thrown from his bike.”

Blue and his lawyers maintain that the metal cable was unmarked or not visible. The complaint also argues that the church should have closed the East Lynn Street gate to the parking lot, or put up a warning to prevent anyone falling over the cable.

His lawyers argue Blue deserves compensation for his injuries, ongoing physical pain and lost wages.
