Parkland businesses on edge after two early morning break-ins

PARKLAND, Wash. — Businesses in Parkland are on edge after someone broke into at least two of them early Monday morning.

Video from Marco's Cantina on Garfield Street shows the thief running into the bar after smashing a glass door. He immediately heads behind the bar. You can’t see his face, but he's wearing a hoodie and a reflective jacket. He opens the register, even breaks some bottles.

Owner Marco Gonzales spent all morning cleaning up the mess left behind.

“I was upset mainly it's not the first. It’s the third, fourth time in seven years. Glad I have cameras. Finally caught something,” Gonzales said.

The suspect's rampage continued down the street to North Lights Coffee Company. One of their glass doors was smashed in, too.

“For somebody to just violate your stuff and what you’re trying to do is inspire people and for somebody to just rip that from you, it was very bothersome,” Alex Davis said.

Davis is the owner of North Lights Coffee Company. He said he thinks his alarm system likely spooked the burglar since nothing inside was stolen.

At Marco's Cantina, the thief actually made off with cash in the register and one of the bar's most expensive bottles of alcohol.

“He's been here before. Why? Because he knew exactly where the registers are. Where I keep my stuff. He must have been here before,” Gonzales said.

North Lights Coffee Company has only been open since September. Davis said he created this space to bring people together and he's not going to let this crime take that away.

“I'm going to use this opportunity to say you know, we’re not having this in our community. Even in the midst of violation, I found strength in just saying no, we're going to build up our community,” Davis added.

Both Davis and Gonzales said they hope people come forward if they know anything.
