TUKWILA, Wash. — No one was injured after an Amtrak train, headed northbound through Tukwila, paused operations Sunday due to a single car derailment.
The Tukwila Fire Department said all 12 cars were standing upright with no visible damage.
A single locomotive was slightly leaning after it had derailed from the tracks.
At the time of the derailment, the train was traveling at about 5 m.p.h. or less. No fuel was leaking from the train.
The train had approximately 236 passengers, the Fire Department said. Riders were transferred to King Street Station by bus.
Amtrak and BNSF Railways are working to determine the cause of the derailment.
The wheels of the locomotive on train 502, the Amtrak Cascades train operating between Portland and Seattle, lost contact with the rails near Tukwila, WA at approximately 12:05 local time. The locomotive remains upright and no other cars on the train were affected. There were 235 passengers onboard with no injuries to passengers or crew. We are providing all passengers with alternate transportation and they are currently heading to their destination. We are continuing to work on arrangements for future trains.
