Police search for suspect in Bothell burglary, sexual assault

BOTHELL, Wash. — Police are warning people in Bothell there is a rapist on the loose.

They’re searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman inside her own home off Highway 522 just west of 405.

Amanda Jones lives in Federal Way, but she spends every weekend with her boyfriend in Bothell, and she says she’s always worried more about her safety at home than away.

“It’s such a safe area, I’ve never felt nervous about going outside at night at all,” she told us.

So when we told her that Bothell police are looking for a rapist that broke into a home inside this trailer park Sunday morning and sexually assaulted the homeowner when she walked in on what appeared to be a burglary in progress— Amanda was taken aback and unsettled, especially because police believe it was random.

“That’s a lot more alarming than someone you know because just random—it could happen to anyone,” Amanda said.

And that’s what has police so concerned; they passed out flyers making the community aware of the attack.

“I think I’ll go home and tell my wife so she can be aware, if she sees something suspicious at least she knows—there’s something to look out for,” Subba Kamma, who lives in Bothell, said.

The flyer also provides home crime prevention tips like locking doors and windows and leaving lights on when you’re gone.

Amanda already does that in Federal Way, and she’s even adopting a dog this weekend—

“I’m nervous about walking alone at night,” she said, but she never imagined she’d feel that way in Bothell.

Police are eventually hoping to be able to release a sketch of the suspect.

Right now there is only a very vague description of what he was wearing the day of the crime.
