After coming into contact with the man, a deputy fired multiple shots.
The man was taken to the U.S. Forest Service Ranger Station at Verlot and airlifted to Harborview Regional Medical Center.
Interactions between the man and deputies are being investigated. Detectives have recovered multiple edged weapons at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The Snohomish County deputy has been with the county for 18 years and will be on administrative leave pending the investigation.
