SEATTLE — Record heat was expected Sunday in the Puget Sound region.
Officials with the National Weather Service of Seattle said heat with record tying and breaking highs were forecast.
The forecast high for Sea-Tac was 92 degrees, which is the record high for the date, reached in 1978.
The forecast high for Olympia was 96. The record high for the date there is 93, set in 1978. In Quillayute, the forecast high was 81. The record is 91, reached in 2003.
In Hoquiam, the forecast high was 83. The record high is 90, reached in 2003. And in Bellingham, the forecast high was 84. The record high is 84, reached in 1958.
By 2:45 p.m., Olympia and Bellingham had both hit the record heat marks, reaching 93 and 84 degrees, respectively.
Around 6:20 p.m., NWS officials said Sea-Tac had broken its earlier record, reaching 93 degrees.
