No one was injured, and officials with Central Pierce Fire say all children were able to get off the bus safely.

The bus was destroyed and, seen pictured below, left utterly scorched by fire. According to fire officials, the driver smelled smoke and immediately evacuated everyone.

A second bus took the children to school.

On Tuesday, the school district shared a photo of the heroic bus driver, who they identified as Ron Kitts.

From a release on the district website:

"My thanks go out to those people that stopped to help. And my kids were great. They were scared, but they did everything they were supposed to do. They were very, very good," said Kitts.
