KENT, Wash. — A man is in custody after an attempted robbery and shooting outside a business in Kent.
The incident happened at about 1:45 a.m. Thursday outside a hookah lounge in the Benson Plaza at 104th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 236th Street.
Witnesses said as one man came out of the business, another man tried to rob him. As the victim's friends exited the lounge, the gunman shot the victim in the leg.
The victim’s friends then jumped in and tried to help.
As one of the victim’s friends wrestled the gun away from the suspect, the suspect fired the gun, nearly shooting the friend in the head.
"The shooter started running so we ran after him. I’m the first one who grabbed him. We both went on the ground. He shot another bullet just right next to my head. Then the other guys came and we grabbed him and called the cops right away," said Mamoon Alrawe, whose friend was shot.
A group of the victim's friends held the suspect on the ground until police arrived and took the suspect into custody.
Witnesses said the gunman had been with a group of people who also had guns. Witnesses also say there was a getaway car, but the people in the vehicle drove away before police arrived.
The man who was shot is expected to be OK.
