SOAP LAKE, Wash. — A woman died in an early-morning house fire in Soap Lake on Thursday, the Grant County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
Soap Lake is located about 23 miles northwest of Moses Lake.
The Sheriff's Office said emergency responders were dispatched to 4777 Road 19 Northeast for reports of a house fire around 12:20 a.m.
One of the home’s occupants, Samuel E. Engelhardt, was chopping wood outside the residence when he noticed his double-wide manufactured home was on fire.
“Englehardt told responders that his friend was asleep on the couch when he went outside. A woman's body was found inside the home after the flames were extinguished,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Responders turned the body over to coroner Craig Morrison, who is expected to conduct an autopsy and confirm the identity of the victim.
The coroner, the Grant Count Fire Marshall and detectives with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the fire.
