Some Eastside residents say a proposal to install an 80-foot cellphone tower and equipment bunker will turn a grassy field into an industrial facility.
But city officials told the Seattle Times that neighbors have complained about poor cellphone coverage for years.
A 45-foot tower was temporarily put in Fairweather Park and Nature Preserve in Medina in 2013.
The citizens group "RespectMedina" posted a picture of T-Mobile testing the height for a new permanent cell tower. The group has joined a federal lawsuit over the proposed location of the tower, but for the time being, that's on hold.
T-Mobile is looking for an alternate site, but news of other locations has brought concern from neighbors who don’t want to see the site from their homes.
Last year, the city made $32,000 from the cell tower lease.
