EVERETT, Wash. — A man is dead and six people were taken to the hospital after a fire broke out in a garage at a duplex near Everett.
Investigators say the fire at 127th Street Southeast and Third Avenue was reported at 12:42 a.m. Thursday.
When fire crews arrived, flames were coming out of the garage and most of the family was already standing outside.
Firefighters said the fire, which was contained to the garage, was mostly under control within about 20 minutes, but a 29-year-old man was found dead inside a car.
Four adults and two children were taken to the hospital as a precaution for exposure to smoke. Firefighters also treated a dog with oxygen at the scene before it was taken to an emergency veterinarian clinic.
The man who died and the rest of the people who were taken to the hospital are part of one family.
Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies are calling the incident a death investigation.
