Police: Naked man torches parents' home in Edmonds

EDMONDS, Wash. — An arson investigation is underway in Edmonds where police say a man set his parents’ home on fire.

Edmonds police were called to a home in the 19100 block Olympic View Drive at 11:30 p.m. Thursday for a report of someone breaking things inside the house.

First responding officers say they could hear things being broken for more than a block away.

They approached the home and found a naked, 30-year-old man outside. He then went inside the house and refused to come out.

Within a few minutes, officers could see smoke inside the house.

Not knowing if anyone else was inside, officers entered the home and found the man with a lighter and gas can setting things on fire, including a car in the garage.

Police struggled to get the man into custody and eventually had to use a stun gun on him and then dragged him out of the house.

Firefighters said the fire was difficult to fight because there were flames on all three stories of the home.

No one else was home at the time of the fire.

The man was taken to Harborview to be evaluated.
