Young bald eagle dies after eating garbage

Sarvey Wildlife Care Center shared this photo of a young bald eagle that somehow ingested various trash.

ARLINGTON, Wash. — A young bald eagle died after somehow ingesting garbage.

The sick eagle was found on Camano Island and was brought to the Sarvey Wildlife Care Center in Arlington for treatment last week.

The dehydrated eagle was given fluids.  The next morning, staff were surprised to see the bird had regurgitated a used condom, and later, what appeared to be some plastic tape.

Staff was unsure if the trash was inside a fish or something else when it was ingested, but said it seemed odd that an eagle would purposely select such items for food.

Initially, the bird’s prognosis was guarded, by on Monday, the wildlife center reported the eagle had died.

"The toxicity from the trash that he consumed was just too much for him. It also seriously upset the GI track and esophagus," staff reported on Sarvey's Facebook page.

UPDATE - Patient of the Week - In addition to the condom the young Bald eagle regurgitated yesterday, she just threw up...
