1. Birther no more: Donald Trump's campaign says the GOP candidate now believes that President Barack Obama was, indeed, born in the United States, though Trump himself has yet to say it publicly. Trump has for years said he believes Obama was born in Africa, not in Hawaii as his birth certificate says. He, along with others known as "birthers," have maintained that Obama was ineligible to be president because you must be born in the United States in order to serve as president.
2. Gordon murder-suicide: Police in California say former NASCAR racer Robby Gordon's father strangled his step-mother then shot and killed himself in a murder-suicide. No motive was offered in the deaths of Sharon Gordon, 57, and Robert Gordon, 68. The couple lived in Orange, Calif.
3. iPhone Plus sold out: If you are looking to get an Apple's iPhone 7 Plus you will have to wait. While the phone officially goes on sale Friday, Apple says the Plus model of its newest iPhone has sold out through pre-orders online. The jet black model of the phone has also sold out. While you can still place an order for the phone online, you may have to wait for several weeks to get it. Apple says limited numbers of the iPhone 7 in other colors will be available to customers in Apple stores.
4. In other phone news: The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone has been recalled by U.S. safety regulators. Several of the phones have caught fire some causing property damage. "Because this product presents such a serious fire hazard, I am urging all consumers ... to take advantage of this recall right away," said Elliot Kaye, chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Samsung says the potential fire issue involves 2.5 million smartphones worldwide, half of those are in America. Consumers can get a replacement phone or a full refund on the phone that went on sale last month.
5. Snowden: As the Olive Stone movie "Snowden" hits theaters Friday, a U.S. House Intelligence Committee released a report that says the man the movie is based on stole test answers, failed training on U.S. surveillance law and padded his resume when applying for a job with the federal government. Members of the committee have sent President Obama a letter urging him not to pardon the man who copied then leaked classified U.S. government information.

A lot of the usual suspects are up for best drama and comedy awards, but some say newcomers such as "Mr. Robot" have a shot at taking home an award.
