LOS ANGELES — A semi truck carrying 80,000 pounds of bananas caught fire on a California freeway Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Traffic was jammed Wednesday on the southbound Golden State Freeway at about 10 a.m. PDT, according to the California Highway Patrol. The truck caught fire in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, KCBS reported.
Crews from the Los Angeles Fire Department were able to extinguish the blaze within 30 minutes, the television station reported.

At one point, the southbound lanes of the freeway were shut down, but several lanes were reopened by noon, according to KCBS.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, the television station reported.
