Woman hit, killed by train in downtown Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash. — A woman was struck and killed by a southbound Amtrak train in Tacoma while she walking on the edge of the railroad ties.

Local police are investigating with Burlington Northern Santa Fe officials after the death in the downtown Tacoma area.

A source told KIRO 7’s Rob Munoz the victim was a transient and believed she was not paying attention as she walked along the edge of the tracks.

The 43-year-old woman was hit at 8:20 a.m. by an Amtrak Cascades train that runs between Portland and Seattle.
