Sherman talks trade rumors; Bennett weighs in on whether Seattle should have signed Kaepernick

One of the first questions Richard Sherman answered on day two of mandatory minicamp was about the ESPN article that said the cornerback is still trying to get past Seattle’s Super Bowl XLIX loss to New England.

The article also talked about when Sherman had two in game sideline blowups in 2016.

“He [Seth Wickersham, ESPN senior writer] could have easily made a story about how a great team has a great competitive environment and a competitive locker room, and an iron sharpens iron mentality from offense to defense,” Sherman said. “And that would have been fantastic. It would have been a fantastic story. He probably would have still gotten the same number of clicks, but he went from a controversial nonsense angle.”

Did Sherman ask for a trade during the offseason?

“We didn’t. We didn’t. We did not,” Sherman said. “We just had conversations about it.”

What about Sherman’s relationship with Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson?

“Oh, it’s fantastic. It’s fantastic. We’re teammates. It’s like a family. It’s like everyone else in a family – we fight for one another.”

Bennett recently told a radio station that he wishes the Seahawks had signed Kaepernick.

“If he feels [Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll] that this is not the right decision because we have a starting quarterback, then that’s his choice,” Bennett said. “I think he’s able to have that choice.”

Sherman sends this message to Seahawks nation:

“I would definitely like to retire a Seahawk and finish my career here. We always started here. We started something special.”
