RENTON, Wash. — The Seattle Seahawks are signing former starting cornerback Byron Maxwell to a one year deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Ian Rapaport of the NFL Network.

Maxwell, a sixth round pick by Seattle in 2011 out of Clemson University, was released by the Miami Dolphins on October 24th.

The seven-year veteran won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seahawks over the Denver Broncos, and also appeared in Seattle's Super Bowl XLIX loss against the New England Patriots.

In March of 2015, Maxwell signed a six-year, $63 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was traded to Miami in March 2016.

Maxwell is expected to help fill the void at cornerback after Richard Sherman ruptured his Achilles in Thursday night's victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
