7 things to do this weekend: Feb. 7-9

1. Lunar New Year: Lunar New Year Celebration, Year of the Rat. At Seattle’s Chinatown-International District, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. FREE. Celebrate the new year with the Chinatown International District Business Improvement Area with a day full of exciting cultural activities. Stop by for a showcase of celebratory activities by local Asian communities and organizations. Enjoy numerous performances of martial arts, dragon and lion dances, Japanese Taiko drumming and much more. Delicious foods ranging in cuisine from Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese will on site through the celebrations, and arts, crafts and other family-friendly activities will be available to check out as well. 2. Children’s theatre: Seattle Children’s Theatre presents “Snow White”. Charlotte Martin Theatre. Feb. 6-9, 15-16, 22-23, Feb. 29-Mar.1,7-8, 14-15. Various show times. The classic fairy tale tells the story of two teenagers finding each other deep in the forest, where they must encounter an evil queen. During her journey, Snow White befriends seven dwarfs and redefines her true ambitions in life. 3. Musical performing arts: Northwest Symphony Orchestra’s “Valentine’s Concert”. Highline Performing Arts Center in Burien, 7:30-9:30 p.m. Enjoy the delicate strings and vibrating sounds of the NSO, with symphonic dances from Bruce Stark and Sergei Rachmaninoff, and a Piano Concerto No. 5 (Emperor) by Ludwig Van Beethoven (250th anniversary). 4. Fairytale ballet performance: Pacific Northwest Ballet: Kent Stowell’s “Cinderella”. McCaw Hall, Seattle, Feb. 1-9 at 1, 7 or 7:30 p.m. show times. Each night is a magical experience for the fairy tale rendition of Ken Stowell’s “Cinderella,” with the familiar score from Prokofiev, immerse yourself in the storytelling of the lonely heroine and her wistful dreams to attend the palace’s dazing ball. Cinderella and her prince charming take center stage to dazzle audiences with a scarlet-clad waltz and beautiful scenes to take you through their storybook romance. 5. Wine and Chocolate: Wine & Chocolate Festival. Enumclaw Expo Center, Feb. 7- 8. Friday 4-10 p.m., and Saturday 2-10 p.m. One way to end the week and start the weekend is to enjoy delicious local chocolates paired with a glass of great wine. The Enumclaw Expo will be holding the annual Wine & Chocolate Festival this Friday and Saturday. Admission includes a wine glass plus six tasting tickets. 6. Run for a cause. Cupid’s Undie Run. Seattle, Feb. 8, noon-4 p.m. This brief, 1-mile fun run supports the fight to find a cure for neurofibromatosis (NF), a genetic tumor disorder that affects 1 in every 3,000 births. Running in your undies pays homage to those with the disease who can’t cover the tumors. Check-in starts at noon with race time at 2 p.m., followed shortly afterwards by a Cupid’s Charity celebration. 7. Chocolates and brews: The annual Pike Chocofest. Downtown Seattle at Pike Brewing Company. From 6-9 p.m. Sip delicious local, Pike Brewing beers and try out sweets and savory bites at the brewery. To celebrate an early Valentine’s Day, try out the local chocolatiers’ goods, local beer and cider-makers, craft wineries and distilleries on-site. The festival supports local nonprofit, Long Live the Kings, which works to restore wild salmon and the sustainability of fishing right here in the Pacific Northwest.
