Northwest Hospital patient tests negative for coronavirus

Jan. 31, 2020 update: Hospital officials said test results from the patient who was being evaluated for possible coronavirus at Northwest Hospital came back negative.

The patient was released Thursday.

Original report from Jan. 28, 2020:

A patient is being evaluated in Seattle’s Northwest Hospital for possible coronavirus, said hospital officials.

Northwest Hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg said the patient was admitted Tuesday afternoon and is in satisfactory condition and in appropriate isolation.

The hospital is working with the Public Health – Seattle & King County on the case and will receive test results within 24 to 48 hours.

Gregg said testing for coronavirus is a precautionary measure and public health officials believe it’s unlikely that the test will come back positive.

The first case of Wuhan coronavirus was confirmed in Snohomish County on Jan. 21. According to the CDC, a man in his 30s recently returned from a trip to China and was treated at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.

As of Tuesday morning, there are five confirmed cases of coronavirus in the United States.
