TACOMA, Wash. — On Friday, survivors of a mall shooting will remember their close call 10 years later.
On Nov. 20, 2005, Dominick Maldonado shot seven people in the Tacoma Mall. He was 20 years old at the time of the shooting.
One of the survivors, Dan McKown, who had been a store manager at the mall, had a concealed weapons permit.
McKown had pulled his own gun and told Maldonado to put down his weapon when he was shot and nearly bled to death.
Maldonado then held four people hostage in a music store before surrendering to police. He had more than 600 rounds of ammunition.
He was sentenced to 163 years in prison in 2007.
No one was killed, but McKown was shot five times and is paralyzed from the waist down.
McKown, a stand-up comedian, said he doesn't want to focus on the darkness surrounding the day and instead is hosting a comedy show in Tacoma Friday night.
