12th Man flag raised atop Needle for 'Blue Friday'

SEATTLE — It's "Blue Friday" in Seattle as the Seahawks head for Washington, D.C. and Sunday's game.

Join KIRO 7 at 6:30 p.m. Sunday for a special post-game show. Steve Raible -- who will call the game on radio -- will add his insight; Gary Horcher will be on the field, and Chris Francis will show all the action and reaction.

Eyes are on the Space Needle, where the 12th Man flag was raised Friday morning.

Mayor McGinn joined rock stars -- from Matt Cameron to Macklemore -- to raise the flag.

Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll is urging the 12th Man to join the Seahawks sendoff at 2:30 p.m. Fans should line up on South 188th Street in SeaTac to cheer the Hawks as they board their flight to D.C.

Flags and honor are at stake in a ceremonial bet between the two teams' cities: The mayor with the losing team must fly the winner's flag over his city hall for a day.

D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray noted that the Seahawks haven't won a playoff game 'on the road' since 1983.

But Hawks fans have reason to hope: The last two times the Redskins made it to the playoffs -- in 2005 and 2007 -- they lost to Seattle.
