RENTON, Wash. — Kyler Olson and his mother Jaime Olson said when they saw smoke coming from a hill near their home they called 911 and rushed up the hill to see what was going on.
"When we got up there, there were three people (who had gotten) out of the house," said Jaime Olson.
The three people who escaped were an elderly man, elderly woman and their adult son.
The men were alert and talking, while the woman had collapsed and was unconscious on the front lawn of their home just off of Talbot Road South in Renton.
Immediately Kyler Olson knew he had a valuable skill that could save the woman's life.
He had learned how to perform CPR in middle school and was certified.
"There were people out there helping with CPR and they called the dispatcher was talking to them. I helped perform the CPR with them," said Kyler Olson.
Soon afterward, firefighters arrived and the woman, who family members say is around 80 years old, was rushed to Harborview Medical Center.
The woman's family says she is in critical but stable condition.
They say they didn't know that Kyler performed CPR and hope to thank him one day in person for saving the life of someone they love very much.
Firefighters put out the fire within 30 minutes. Investigators are still trying to find out what caused the fire.
