NORTH CASCADES HIGHWAY, Wash. — On Friday, the Washington State Department of Transportation re-opened the North Cascades Highway – and a very special tradition was continued.
93-year-old Tootsie Clark was there -- handing out her ‘delicious cinnamon rolls and coffee to those waiting for the gates to swing open.’
WSDOT shared a photo of Tootsie, flanked by Granny Winthrop and WSDOT maintenance supervisor Don Becker.
Tootsie makes the annual trip for the re-opening of the gates -- and first went with her dad -- in 1973.
Tootsie was described by WSDOT as ‘always a highlight of this exciting day.’
