GIG HARBOR, Wash. — A woman was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man, whose body was found dumped on the side of the road in Gig Harbor.
In July, Leon Baucham, Jr., 33, was found in a ditch on the side of a rural road and died of a gunshot wound to the torso, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Baucham’s mother-in-law, Jacquline Ray, was booked for kidnapping and murder, and she allegedly had one accomplice, the sheriff’s office said.
KIRO 7 Eyewitness News spoke with Baucham’s mother, Lavonne Brown, after investigators called her about the arrest.
“Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end of a nightmare. Even though it won’t bring my son back, and even though it was betrayal in its highest form. Betrayed by someone expected to love you, especially since he was in that family for eight years. Right now, I’m just so thankful,” said Brown.
Baucham was the father of three children.
Brown said she doesn’t know what the motive was.
