BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A Bellingham veterinarian has been suspended while the Health Department investigates charges that he injected himself with an animal anesthetic.
Charges say that Todd William Perry appeared to be impaired and had glazed eyes, slurred speech, and was unsteady while working with a client’s dog. Perry had to lean against a countertop to remain upright, and later that day, he was taken to the emergency room at a local hospital by an ambulance for an apparent drug overdose, according to the state Health Department.
Investigators said Perry admitted to a doctor that he injected himself with medications from his veterinary clinic and had been doing it for a “long time.” The doctor also noticed numerous marks from injections on Perry’s arm.
Perry can’t practice in Washington until the charges are resolved. He has 20 days to respond to the charges and to ask for a hearing.
