Bonney Lake native receiving Medal of Honor

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

WASHINGTON — Army Sergeant Kyle White will receive the Medal of Honor on Wednesday from President Obama, for "risking his life in combat, beyond the call of duty."

In 2007, as a radio-telephone operator, White and his team of soldiers were ambushed during a meeting in an Afghan village.

He said, they were suddenly surrounded by people they thought were friendly villagers.

“It started as one shot,” White said, “then it seemed like the whole valley erupted.”

White was knocked unconscious.

When he regained consciousness, White dodged bullets to try and save two of his fellow soldiers, then hunkered-down for the night before being rescued hours later.

White retired from the Army in 2011 and is currently an investment analyst in North Carolina.
