Bremerton mother accused of trying to strangle teenage daughter

Bremerton, Wash. — A Bremerton mother is accused of trying to strangle her teenage daughter after she reported the girl as a runaway and police brought her home.

Mandylynn Derr, 35, was arrested after her 15-year-old daughter was hospitalized with marks and abrasions around her throat.

Bremerton police Sgt. Kevin Crane said the girl told them after police brought her home Saturday, she got into a fight with Derr, who wrapped her hands around the girl's throat, threatening to kill her.

"The only thing that stopped her mother from continuing the strangulation was that the mother's boyfriend intervened and pulled the mother off of her," Crane said.

Derr's boyfriend, Willie Johnson, said he broke the two up as they fought, but claimed he never saw Derr try to strangle the girl.

"I don't know anything about her going to the hospital or anything of that nature," Johnson said. "I separated them."

Derr was ordered held in the Kitsap County Jail on $75,000 bond.
