Son of prominent Pierce County detective charged with child molestation

PIERCE COUNTY, Washington — The 19-year-old son of widely respected Pierce County Sheriff’s Detective Ed Troyer has been accused of third-degree rape and child molestation, according to court documents released Thursday.

Those documents suggest the sexual contact between Zachary Troyer and a 14-year-old was consensual.

Records show the girl’s father found Zachary in his home last month, tackled him and held him until police arrived.

Detective Troyer released a statement Thursday that read, in part, “As foster parents, we have raised seven kids through foster care, including Zach. All were taken out of abusive situations. Zach currently lives on his own. I would expect him to be treated the same as other 19-year-olds facing similar charges.”
