Kirkland, Wash. — Customers love Hoffman's Fine Pastries for being one of a shrinking number of bakeries that make everything from scratch.
With the bakery being forced to move, the Pritchard kids, Julie and Steven made sure to come on their college break.
“When I was younger we'd get like a dozen thumbprints, we would share them we would bring them to school,” said Steven
Hoffman's isn't the only business at Kirkland’s Park Place that's shutting down as the year ends, because much of the mall will be torn down
Early next year construction will begin on a new office, residential and retail complex called Kirkland Urban.
Hoffman's wasn't invited to return, so co-owner Eugenia Velez will spend the weekend hugging customers who have become friends.
“For the customers and for us it is so sad,” she said.
She'll reopen late next month in a new Hoffman's in Redmond,
Still, she said, customers will miss their Christmas season favorites.
“They're are going to miss for the first time Christmas, Christmas products like yule logs, cookies, all the specialties we have for the whole month of Christmas.”
Paul and Millie Hall have been married 65 years, and just had to come for a final coffee and cookies at this old Hoffman's location.
“It's a way of relaxing before we have to do our shopping,” Millie Hall said,
And Paul Hall told us he's the architect who designed the original bakery 31 years ago, “Since then this place has turned to a social gathering place.”
With this location closing on Sunday, the bakery says one customer has placed an order for 12 dozen of the popular peanut butter bars.
Co-owner Velez is telling customers that the new location in Redmond might possibly be ready as early as December 20th, but there are no guarantees.
