SEATTLE — West Seattle neighbors want the city to help them open a new grocery store.
The Delridge neighborhood was the Seattle mayor's first stop on his Find It - Fix It walk this weekend.
Co-op board members say they suffered a blow when they did not receive a $250,000 loan to fix up the space.
“We want something here so we can shop for food and we want to own it," said Parie Hine.
The Delridge neighborhood is considered a “food desert” because the closest grocery store is more a mile away and that can be a hardship for those without transportation.
A new co-op would change that.
