The Bellevue Police Department announced Tuesday that retired police K-9 Roc died unexpectedly.
After retiring in December 2016, Roc was with his adoptive family when he died in his sleep.
The dog started his career with the department with Officer Brad Knudtsen in November 2009. He completed more than 400 hours of initial training and was certified in March 2010.
Roc was a handful in his early days, so full of energy and drive, that he routinely spun in circles trying to catch his tail. This spinning became his trademark. Roc's work ethic was unrivaled. Roc was always ready to go catch bad guys, and he did so with gusto – Bellevue Police Department
Roc served Bellevue and surrounding communities for nearly seven years, making 85 captures and dozens of narcotics searches. In October 2016, Roc's handler decided to retire him early after a series of injuries.
After retiring, Roc enjoyed playing ball with his four kids, going to numerous baseball games, and bossing around his first ever dog pal, Badger, according to the department.
