RV driver ejected, killed in Bellevue rollover crash

BELLEVUE, Wash. — The driver of an RV was killed when he was thrown from the vehicle during a rollover crash in Bellevue.

It happened at West Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast and Southeast 26th Street around 5:30 a.m. Friday. Streets are closed at the scene while officers investigate and are expected to be for several hours.

The RV was going down a steep hill heading east on SE 26th when it's driver lost control, crossed Lake Sammamish Parkway without stopping and went down a driveway, where the RV rolled over several times, according to Bellevue police spokeswoman Meeghan Black.

The man was thrown about 20 feet from the RV, Black said.

Bellevue fire said police were called to the scene and an officer started CPR on the victim until medics arrived.

The driver, a 52-year-old man, died at the scene, according to police.

Black said the man's girlfriend was driving a car in front of him and saw the crash as she turned right onto West Lake Sammamish Parkway Southeast. Black said the girlfriend "saw him blow through the intersection."

The RV will be checked to see if it had any mechanical defects that may have caused the crash, police said.  The Washington State Patrol will fly a drone over the crash scene to help determine what happened.
