Everett Silvertips player selected in first round of NHL draft — A hockey player for the Everett Silvertips was selected Friday in the first round of the 2012 National Hockey League draft.
Defenseman Ryan Murray, 18, was chosen second overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets, according to a statement released by the Everett Silvertips.
According to the organization, Murray was the highest drafted out of 14 NHL picks in the Silvertips’ history and he was the fifth first-round selection produced by Everett.
Murray is originally from White City, Saskatchewan and was named the 2012 Western Conference Most Sportsmanlike Player.
He appeared on the Western Hockey League’s Western Conference All-Star Second Team in each of the past two seasons.
