Interstate 5 blocked near Everett after police incident

EVERETT, Wash. — A police chase caused major backups Wednesday afternoon near Everett and police used a Taser to subdue a woman who was later arrested.

The incident happened shortly after 1 p.m. near 12th Street Northeast north of Everett. All northbound lanes were initially blocked, and two lanes were reopened about 1:20 p.m.
The incident began when a state patrol trooper tried to stop a vehicle for speeding and it wouldn't stop. Troopers put spike strips on the road, and the back tire of the suspects' vehicle blew out. Troopers then did a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle, State Patrol spokesman Mark Francis said.
A man was driving and a woman passenger was hit by a Taser after the vehicle stopped.
Additional details will be posted when they're available.
