KIRKLAND, Wash. — A hospital employee stared down the barrel of a gun as an armed carjacker pulled her from her vehicle Monday night.
The carjacking happened at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland along Northeast 128th Street.
"That's really messed up," said employee Caleb Tizon.
An employee was targeted as she left work just after 10:30 p.m.
"She said the person pulled a gun on her and pointed it at her while she was in the car," said Lt. Mike Murray of the Kirkland Police Department.
Police say the carjacker pulled the woman from her vehicle at gunpoint and even gave a reason why.
"He actually apologized. He said he needed the vehicle because his brother had been stabbed and he needed to go provide him aid, which was rather odd," said Murray.
The 43-year-old woman did as she was told, then called police and hospital security for help.
It didn't take long for police to track down the stolen vehicle because of what was left inside.
“She actually had two iPads and an iPhone," said Murray.
Each was equipped with "find my iPhone and iPad" features.
"[Police] were able to track the vehicle to the Mill Creek area," said Murray.
But the carjacker had ditched the car.
A K-9 unit wasn’t able to track down the man. He is described as a light-skinned black man, in his 20s wearing a gray hoodie.
But he might not get far, Evergreen Health says the incident was captured on surveillance video.
"It's kind of weird that he would do that just for a ride," said Tizon.
A police officer told KIRO 7 the carjacker also left his gun in the victim's car.
KIRO 7 is asking police and the hospital for surveillance video of the carjacking.
Police say a sketch of the suspect will also be released.
